Unstabe system due to WBPattern
« on: December 04, 2005, 01:38:37 PM »
Hi all,

I am experiencing system instability problems when using the WBPattern prefs program which I like to use for large backdrop pics. When I load the default backdrop patterns that come with the ATE package I get the following error: (numbers may vary):

0100 000C task 0809E558 (yellow box error;recoverable error)

I get read errors on my cybSCSI bus. Even memory seems corrupt. I cannot even do a ctrl-C without errors. The system gets really slow.

I have tried altering my Startup-Sequence down to standard 3.9-1 to no avail.

I use OS3.9-2 with Executive and MMUlib.
HW: CyberstormPPC180, CV3d P96

Help greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Don't know if this will be any help since it's a totaly different set of hardware, but I used to have the same problem when working with my Prometeus IDE expansion board using a Voodoo 3000 video card. When loading any workbench patteren or image, the system would corrupt the screen image or hand. I added an additional fan to cool the video card and the trouble ended.

I don't know if this will help, but try:

1. Start without Executive. Executive used to crash my system occasionally, so I got rid of it. (maybe you already tried this)

2. Convert the images you want to use to a different format. Maybe the images are corrupt (this happened to me once) or the datatype being used is having problems (this also happened to me).

3. If the image is larger than your WB screen, trim it to match your WB screen size.

Thanks so far.
I can produce the error over and over again with one particular backdrop picture only. Try loading the picture called 'Workbench' from the ATE (Amiga Theme Editor) package and see what happens on your systems. It's the blue wavey piccie job. It must be corrupt somehow, but when I load it in Multiview and save it back it gets smaller in size but produces the same error. Freaky. I'm using a different piccie now.
