Can you check your PAL version to see if it has the color bug?  Easiest way to check is to load up Summer Games or Winter Games.  If you can't read the screen clearly, then the unit has the fault.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

I have a PAL unit, and can understand the issue but Ive found it's fixable by simply tweaking the TV settings a little.

I just switch my settings from custom to dynamic, problem solved!

It's not that big a deal.

The real fix requires resoldering SMD resistors that are mixed up on the board.  You might be able to tweak the color to fit a certain game like Summer Games, but then the palette will be off for the rest.

I want to order one but I don't want to have to go through the trouble of fixing the thing.

At AU$35 (25USD, 21EUR, cheaper online), its a novelty, throwaway item anyhow.

That there is a healthy hardware hacking scene around this thing is a bonus, but it aint going to become my next hobby computer.

I'd say, if youre interested in this kind of thing, just get one.

Where's the best place to by an NTSC one in the good ole USA?

*edit-update* went scouting for one at lunchtime. I walked into a Toys R Us store, looked around a bit (noting I was by far the oldest non-female in the joint) and found the C64 DTV "30-in-1" unit outside the security perimeter section for video games.  They were with all the other retro joysticks (Colecovision, Atari 2600..God bless you JM, etc.).  Anyhow, for any US users interested, it's $19.99 cold cash, no questions asked by the young checkout girls.

@coldfish

I already have a pair of NTSC v1s (one hacked, one standard).  I am getting the DTV Hummer once it gets in at my local Radio Shack, and I'll be getting a PAL DTV also.

I know it's cheap.  But, since the resistor problem has been found and solved by hackers, it's only a matter of time before Toy:Lobster fixes the problem in production.

If AmigaKit can verify that these are fixed, I'll order it.  The reason I want verification is overseas shipping isn't cheap.  And, so far nobody on the C64 forums and usenet has seen a fixed version in the wild.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Thats no problem at all.

If you don`t mind me testing yours before shipping - it will be verified as working for you.

I just fixed the PAL DTV I bought in Germany. The resistor bug is there at the moment, looks like bad quality control (or none at all) :-(

Without the fix the display is sometimes really unreadable... with the fix it's quite nice :-)
