Virtual Memory on OS 3.9?
«

OK I have a A4000 040 with 16MB Fast with a Cybervision 64 card. OS 3.9 runs great but when I go online and use iBrowse all the mem gets eaten up and within a few moments my system runs out of memory!
I want to try to get Virtual Memory working. I tried years ago but could not get it working, this would be a fun project. Anyone wanna help?

I beta tested VMM for the Amiga years ago and it worked well. This was before OS 3.9 however. Have you tried it yet?
On this page a little way down;

I used to use VMM years and years ago in order to be able to play Doom on my 4mb A1200!
It was PAINFULLY slow to load and change level etc., but it worked and I was happy that it actually ran.
My Amiga was my only computer back then.

To use VMM, your 68040 needs to be a full version with mmu. I only say this because some A3640s had EC 040s on them. Check out Thomas Richter's web site for more information on using mmu.library and such. There used to also be a commercial product called Gigamem; don't know much about it but it was a virtual memory product. Maybe it would help. I believe you can also adjust your IBrowse settings to not chew up so much chip/fast ram. Adjust your preferences to maybe tweak more performance out of her. You can also just physically flush the memory cache periodically via the pull down menu in Ibrowse. 16MB should be enough to browse for a long time (I'd turn off Javascript support though). Good luck
