amitcp socks client
« on: November 24, 2016, 06:56:37 AM »
I'm trying to use this socks client from aminet: http://aminet.net/package/comm/tcp/socksproxy.lha
but it doesn't seem to work.
has anyone used it?
Better sorry than worry.

From the readme:

Quote
It uses exec.library's SetFunction() library call to patch a few library
calls in bsdsocket.library (yes, every time a new one is opened, for those
of you that are wondering if it does the right thing with the per-task
library bases).
...

The software has only been tested with a real AmiTCP installation. I don't
believe it would work reliably with other network stacks that "masquarade"
a bsdsocket.library.

This suggests to me that it requires a specific version of AmiTCP to work properly.

ok, thanks.
I made some progress, managed to telnet to (mikrotik) socks on port 1080 but nothing else.
When using linux socks server, it even connected to aminet, but couldn't list files.
Better sorry than worry.

Using HTTP, or FTP? Using FTP is a challenge these days, since chances are that you must use passive mode, which only very few Amiga clients do properly support. The CLI ftp command of Roadshow does it, and ATC supposedly does. DOpus5 FTP module also says it does, but I have yet to get it working.

HTTP should work fine though.

The ftp client in Roadshow at least, supports passive mode. Directory Opus Magellan 5.82+ has option for passive mode too.
