@Manager

Welcome to amiga.org :-D

I'm from Edmonton, Alberta.  Not a member of a club (yet).

I've got an Amiga 2000HD, a Micro AmigaOne (µA1-C), three PCs and two Z80 systems.

I purchased the Amiga 2000HD in Edmonton in approx 1988-89.  Currently running Amiga OS 3.1.

I purchased the Micro AmigaOne (µA1-C) from Livewire Systems at the end of November 2004.  Currently running Amiga OS 4 prerelease update #3.

And if you order from the US, watch out for Canada Customs - they'll rob you blind. Softhut did an exchange for me (already paid customs for the thing) and Canada Customs opened it up and charged me again!

Too right. I ordered a 4 mb PCMCIA memory card I wanted to use with my Amiga from the US and paid $5 for it. Not only I was charged $12.50 for import duties by Canada Customs, but it turns out that the card isn't PCMCIA at all...  :-(

Looks like one but it's basically useless. But that's not what makes me angry as I was prepared to take that risk, it's the import fee I had to pay.  :pissed:

I already requested a refund but I don't think I will get it.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

I'm Originally from Nova Scotia, lived in Toronto for 26 years and lived in Belleville the past 4. Everyone I knew back in the early 90's owned an Amiga. I knew of 5-6 Amiga dealers in my part of Toronto alone. Then everything disappeared around 1996.

It's good to see there are still Canadians kicking around on their Amiga. Great to hear that some of you have OS4. The Amiga has been a hobby of mine for so many years I'd pay 1000 bucks for an A1. However, I have trouble bringing myself to pay for customs charges. On an A1, if there are still any available, I can just imagine them nailing me for a few hundred bucks.

I think its a sign of the strong community that the Amiga is still around even though noone but us really notices. These people are developing software for OS4 not for commercial success but for their love of the computer.

I have a few PC's and even an old C-64 but nothing draws me like an Amiga. I have fun just looking through my directories using DiskMaster. I never did like DirOpus but last time I tried it was in 93. It's not that I'm crazy but the Amiga was a fun computer to use. I don't get the same from Windows, Linux or MacOS. Maybe its just the Nostalgia factor. Yet, maybe its something more.
Waiting for X1000

Hi guys, I'm from Vancouver Island, BC. I have a C64, A500, CDTV, A1200 tower, and a Pegasos1. Anyone else here have Pegasos or interested in them? :-D

I think there's huge potential in hardware like the Pegasos that can run multiple operating systems, like MorphOS, Linux, BeOS (being ported), QNX (already ported but not released), and unOS. Hopefully one day we will see OS4.

I'd also like to see a new Atari OS, it would be great to see an atari community emerge. I wonder what Atari would think of this? :-D

There are are probably lots of independant computer stores across Canada that build their own PCs, are familar with linux, and possibly also sell new or used Macs. This is the type of company to promote alternative platforms besides PCs that they can also get into selling if there's little or preferably no upfront cost for them.

I see the potential for these stores to service niche markets like the hobbyist communities (like MorphOS and OS4) if they are not already doing this, because in some cases the hobbyists don't mind paying more for hardware if they can get better service than the chain stores.

Look here: http://amiga.emugaming.com/prototypes/a2200.html

I always thought the A2200 was an A1200 motherboard in an A4000 case.. it turns out to be something different :-D

_If_ you had it sent through Canada Post, there is a $5 handling fee. (If the item is worth over $20) There is no duty on Computer Parts in Canada, only goods and services tax (7%), which applies to pretty much everything (or 15%  if you live in the Maritime Provinces). Now if you had it sent UPS, well it's bend over, I think I know Ya!  Their brokerage and other charges are obscene.  That's not to say if there was no invoice included, they couldn't make their own determination of value.  I've had stupid fudgers send me an item I bought for $15 and put an insurance value of $100 US and then I got charged $10 for GST (with exchange) and the $5 handling charge. I just got a 600X Thinkpad off of ebay for $299 US including 2 docking stations and a Wireless USB adapter.  They opened it up and thought it was worth $1000 CDN, so I got a bill for $75, but I should get most of it back if I apply for it with documentation proving how much I actually did pay.  The guy actually insured it for $350 which included the shipping, but I guess they thought it was too good a deal to be true  :-) Well they were $3500 CDN three years ago.  :-D
