« on: October 31, 2005, 12:59:34 PM »
Hi

Is it possible to add a compact flash card to my A500? I have SCSI (A590) if that helps. :-) Its just that Im getting fed up with using CDs to get thing on to it.

Thanks

Depends on your budget, I'd say.

You might also be after a cheap IDE solution for your A500.

Check out http://amiga.resource.cx for some example (there are other websites as well).

If you have a Turboboard with an 68020 or 68030 or plan to get one 8highly recommended!) I'd give a serious thought to the A500 clockport adaptor, which gives the A500 two clockports. With these clockports you can get a so-called "Subway" USB interface and get a cardreader via USB.

Or you might go for a Busboard, which enables you to use Zorro (II) Cards, like the Algor, which gives you USB as well. I'd recommend getting a different case, then, though.

Just a matter of your budget...

Have fun,
McTrinsic

@toca180:

I am pretty sure someone on this forum posted about a scsi compact flash reader a year ago or something, but I cant find anything about it. Or maybe it was a scsi pcmcia reader, but that would also work fine with a simple cf->pcmcia adaptor.

Of course its possible..........lots of people have them on thei A600's and A1200 here

Just get an IDE port and   a Compact Flash to IDE adaptor.  simlple.

I have seen SCSI pcmcia cards as well as I used to own one.

but go for the IDE

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

I agree with leirbag28!
If you can get an IDE port you can find on eBay much CF to IDE adapters. I personnaly have one 44pin CF to IDE adapter inside my A600 as a slave device (Yes it has a jumper on it for Master-Slave configuration).
I use it very much for transfering big files from my laptop's CF writer while mounting my CF (Amiga Formated) card in UAE!
It runs very well as it was a Hard Disk but faster!
The only problem is the read/write cycle life so I recommend it only for file transfer and not OS installation and booting.
