To be legal you'll need to pay vastly inflated prices for obselete software .. and do you really think that there is anyone at all here who is 100% legal ?

Probably not but I don't care.

Please don't post about pirateing software. It is against our posting guidelines.

Amiga in a Box is legal to use, but needs Amiga OS. Amiga Forever is a good place to get all the classic version of Amiga OS and ROM files. Back to Roots and other sites have freely available abandonware games. Aminet is a good source of PD software. eBay and Amiga dealers if you want commercial software.

What kind of programs would you be looking for?

getting adfs from  Back to Roots is legal, and few other sites too; but second hand originals on ebay are not so expensive (there is a lot of them) if you plan to play just few most popular games
Better sorry than worry.

Workbench and AmigaOS are two names for the same thing. Versions up to 3.1 are called Workbench, from version 3.5 on it is called AmigaOS.

Sometimes "AmigaOS" refers to the combination of Workbench and Kickstart of the same version. So Workbench 3.0 + Kickstart 3.0 = AmigaOS 3.0.

BTW, if you buy an A1200 nowadays it should come with Kickstart/Workbench 3.1, not 3.0. There are still some Amiga dealers who sell *new* A1200s.

Bye,
Thomas
