Problems with WHDLoad, games not working
« on: October 07, 2005, 11:26:39 AM »
I recently tried to run some WHDLoad games on my A1200 but almost none of them is working. I have no special setup, it's a plain A1200 with 020@28mhz and 4mb ram, however, I had this problem before I got the ram card in it so that doesn't cause it. What happens is as follows: I try to run one of the games unarchived and WHDload starts, but then the screen goes blank, as if it had lost the signal. I'm running my amiga on a tv using a scart-cable btw, so the TV displays "no signal", nor does the amiga give any sound or any sign it is still alive, trying the mentioned quitting method in WHDload (i.e F10) doesn't work either. The only thing that works is the standard "ctrl A+A". Does anyone recognize this problem?

Tried it, still doesn't work. When starting a game, everything just flickers for a second and then the TV loses the signal... however a few game works, but almost about 10% of all the games I've tried, and no they are not cracked copies, they are from orginials, and the games that work work terrific, so I wonder what's causing it?

Stupid question...

Are you using an illegal key? If so it can cause crashes.

Are you using the latest version of WHDLoad? Have you tried reinstalling it?

Do you have any tcp-stack running in the background when you use whdload ?   having one installed and more so if its online will cause the effect your having.

Weird...

I've had no problems with WHDLoad whatsoever. Only issues I've come across is that some of the installers are not that great written... last time I tried Dune for example, the screen flickered and the image of the disk when loading appeared and the music stopped for a second... this doesn't happen when I install the game directly from the floppies without using the WHDLoad installer. Actually, the only game I haven't got to run properly yet is UFO. It flickers and behaves strange, first time saving is always risky because it even manages to hang the computer at times (never happened before in any of the other installs I've tried out). Though, I must admit that I haven't installed that many games, but still... 99% of the time WHDLoad behaves just as I want it to, as long as I remember to run stopnet before, that is... =)

But, what do you mean with "run the games unarchived"?

Amiga 1200, Mirage Tower, PC-Key 1200, Blizzard 1260/50, SCSI Kit, 256MB RAM, 40GB HD, Mediator SX, Soundblaster 128, Voodoo 3 and Realtek 8139.

Since I got WHDLoad on the A1200 when I bought it some months ago I didn't think about this possibility, but it seems that the former owner of the A1200 used a pirated key for WHDLoad, because when I removed the key, the problems are gone. All the games work now, but I still have to register, hope it's not too expensive, this is such a good piece of software!

Btw, is it still possible to register WHDLoad? Was on their site just a minute ago, but I would like to know if anyone here has registered recently?
