Nope, you will need to buy a new Kickstart 3.1 rom for it, as A600 kickstarts are only 1 chip, and Kickstart 3.1 for A1200 is two chips. 256 bit vs 512 bit I guess???

cheers, thought as much, I just bought A600 out of currosity.  I take it , it depends on what roms are in in, as to wther i can run 2.04 or 2.1.  Ive only ever used 1.3 on my A500 i soldl in 1992, and 31, and 3.9 on my a1200

JJ! Long time no see! :-)

The A600 uses the same ROM-chips as the A500 and the A2000 (and the CDTV too, if I'm not mistaken, although the CDTV needs an additional ROM).

If it is the A600HD version (kickstart 37.300 IIRC) you got I believe that you will be able to run both 2.04 and 2.1. Something like running Workbench 3.1 on a Kickstart 3.0 machine.

Aye! It can actually boot a 3.1 floppy aswell (prolly because the loadwb-command is stored in ROM), however, I doubt it will run well.

@doctorq:

Yep - WB2.1 is made for kickstart 2.04/2.05 and there is no dedicated kickstart for it. A good upgrade imho - the layout is exactly like 3.0/3.1 and some libraries, most notably asl.library got some big upgrades making it much more compatible with later releases.

Really?
How about A600 PCMCIA and IDE support then?

its the same, A500 and A2000 probably just don't use that part of ROM. BTW, you can get it cheap at vesalia.de (18e)

or even cheaper from Daniele Gratteri (check newsgroups)

3.1 perhaps.. But with 2.x you need to be careful or you could end up with ROMs that don't have IDE or PCMCIA support.

According to "Workbench Nostalgia", by Greg Donner,
there is the same 3.1 ROM for 500/600/2000.
For 2.xx, instead, 2.04 was shipped with 500+ and 3000,
while 2.05 was required for 600 exactly for IDE and PCMCIA.
It is interesting that a "rom upgrade kit" which I own (used for a 2000) was shipped with 2.05 Workbench (37.71) but 2.04 kikstart, suggesting that 2.05 roms were only needed for the IDE and PCMCIA of the 600.
