Who owns a Youtube video??
« on: May 17, 2013, 02:32:25 PM »
Who owns a Youtube video?  There is a developing story and it is pretty interesting.  Some people have youtube channels and they make "walkthroughs" of various video games.  People who need help search on youtube for help.  Makers of these videos get paid per 1,000 views from Youtube.  Nintendo now claims ownership of these videos because there is a copyright question and they are taking the videos down to only re-upload them with advertisements.

Imagine you were a successful gamer and you had 300,000 views.  You would be making roughly $200,000 a year.  Now Nintendo gets that or will get a portion of that.  It is pretty interesting.  What do you think?

That was my exact first response. i do have some gameplay videos on my channel. But I don't get enough views to warrent them kicking off I would assume. The thing that makes me laugh is how they claim this is to enhnce the social media aspects of Nintendo's games. Rather than what it actually is.

I don't think so because E.A. and other programmers are putting "in game" credit card transactions to get your money.

As despicable as this is, I do find it kind of funny how shocked everybody is that YouTube has turned out to be nothing more than a way for entertainment companies to get content for free. Granted, it's counterintuitive that it would be Nintendo and not Google, but still.
