thank you cyberus ... but that does not really answer my question ...the definitions are great but trying to put them ALL into an understandable context of this question is a little difficult. ie: the eyetech Amiga One site is closed.

Non A1 PPC machines would be :
Amiga "classic" systems (A3000, A4000, A1200) with PPC cards
Pegasos I & II boards.

These (can) run Morphos 1.x and later.

Some adventurous souls have gotten MOS to run on Apple hardware, IIRC.

There are also PPC Linux builds (Yellow Dog Linux, f'rex.) that you can run on these systems.

if amigaOne ppc are out of production, what does the amigaFour Os run on?

Supposedly there will be a new hardware announcement in a few weeks.  The folks at Hyperion seemed to be fairly confident that Eyetech would have a new run of boards ready in the near future as well.  Only time will tell of course.

@BootDisk....The A3000, A4000,and A1200 with a ppc card will run Morphos ?

The new Coldfire is a complete motherboard or to attach to the existing motherboards? Also having trouble getting info from Elbow... is the Coldfire  benchmarked yet ?
thanks...

It's been...about two years now since I'd heard anything about it so your guess is as good as mine.  I simply recall having heard that "someone" (I'm guessing it was Ralph and the dev team, then) got it working on Mac hardware.

Of course, they'll be hard pressed to get it working on 2006 mac hardware!  Muah ha ha ha ha!

Ahem.

The Dragon ColdFire board is an add-on, currently only for A1200 computers.  AFAIK, no one has one of these except for the people at Elbox, so there aren't any publicly available benchmarks.  It should be pretty fast though.  At 266MHz, the V4e ColdFire is rated at 410 MIPs which is several times what the fastest 060s are rated at.  There will be some overhead though, because the ColdFire is missing some instructions and addressing modes that have to be emulated.  Still should be noticably faster though.

I'm a little concerned this product won't ever see the light of day though.  They keep pushing back the release date. Recently they said they would be out as soon as the production version of he MCF5475 was out, but that happened a while ago and still no word on the Elbox site.

That's my understanding.

I'm delving into personal opinion here but I really don't see the Dragon (the coldfire board) making it out of the starting gate.  Sure, Elbox ("elbow" ! ;-) ) may be playing their cards close to their chest but I'm just not seeing it.

Anyone who has any serious interest in the Amiga is either going to try to track down an A1 of some stripe (ha! ha ha!  Good luck... :-? )or a PPC card (again, good luck).

IF the "ACK" PPC card(s) for the 4000 and 1200 (and possibly the 3000) ever see the light of day then for a classic user those will be the better bet.

Me?  I'd like to see a PPC card for the 2000, and one of these http://www.fadbox.de/computercity/AHT/davinci.htm for Z2.  Just for the faster graphics card.
