Problem with WinUAE

Hello all,
Apologies for asking such a basic question....

  Some time ago I bought an Amiga emulator CD ROM that claimed it contained everything needed to get it going. When running WinUAE, and after selecting the preferences, it shows a hand holding a Workbench disk. Clearly it expects the equivalent of a Workbench disc to boot the emulation. I have some Workbench disks - but there's no way they'll work on a PC!

  None of the doc files gave a hint of what you're supposed to do at this point. If someone could give me a clue I'd be most grateful!

A PC cannot read Amiga disks. Therefore WinUAE does not use real disks but rather images of floppy disks. These images are called ADF (Amiga Disk File).

In order to "insert" such an ADF-Disk, press F12, go to the "Floppies" tab and choose an ADF file for one of the emulated drives (e.g. DF0).

Usually ADF files have to be created on a real Amiga (because the PC cannot read Amiga disks). However, there is a hack which allows to read an Amiga floppy disk using two PC floppy drives. http://www.oldskool.org/disk2fdi/ It does not run on WinXP/NT/2K, though.

  I understand now. The problem is how to get a Workbench ADF file. I did a search and several sources said they were available for download on the Net, but I didn't find any. Do you or anyone know where these can be downloaded? Over the years I bought three Amigas (an original NTSC development A1000 before they were in the shops, an A1200 and an A3000) so my conscience is (reasonably!) clear.

Workbench consists of six disks, not one (Workbench, Extras, Fonts, Storage, Locale and Install).

You are not allowed to download ADF files of Workbench if you don't own the original disks. That you formerly owned them, does not matter. You can find them in Google, though.

If you still have your Amiga and the Workbench disks, you can create ADF files from them and transfer them to the PC yourself.

However, if you seriously consider using AmigaOS on WinUAE, you should buy the AmigaForever package. Not only to get all the needed files preinstalled, but also to support the remaining Amiga community.

You could also create your adf's with a catweasel. I have made  this with all my amiga disks for having a backup and works great!!!.
Also the reverse process works fine too!!.

  I'm just a bit annoyed that I actually bought the emulator CD and it said it contained everything you needed to get going, which simply wasn't the case. Oh, well....you pays your money....
