Problems running PPC demos - Please help!

Hi all!
I have been having these problems for a long timwe. And I though now its about time I do
something about it..

a LOT of PPC demos crash or run badly on my
machine.

Some Mawi demos worked, but without sound,
i downgraded to AHI v4 and the sound seems
to work, but the demo crashed after like, 0.3 seconds.. weird..

Planet potions runs (badly) sometimes, sometimes
i doesnt.

What could be wrong? What version of AHI, WarpOS,
mpega.library (mpega libmad possibly?), PowerUP emu, and such things do you guys use?

It is not a heat problem, a lot of apps and games runs, but few demos..

this is making me mad!
I also got a lot of ramlib crashed but not after installing the MMULib package.

... any help is welcome! i dont have a clue!

i used to have problems with games and most things ppc.

i use os3.9 & bb2
the lastest version of warpos
warp3d 4.2

hmm cant really help you there. I run a hackless system prety much, with the latest WarpOS, WOS mpega.lib, and AHI4, not 5 cos that sucks on classic amigas :-). I do however have an AHI problem I would like to fix.

For some reason I only get audio from one speaker when playing Demo's and some other progs that use AHI. Yet other AHI apps like AmigaAMP use both speakers, very strange and I cant see whats wrong.

mr spot... umm well since its a demo it may not work on your system, its rather sad...but it wuld help if you stated what kind of system you have ... and what OS you have.

P96 has a few probs with diffrent cgx stuff but the most annoying thing is the 15bit modes that bvision and such use, as there is no such modes for vodoo and all the new'r gfx cards...

for the sound issues, well try to read the docs at times as many of em require SPECIAL modes only, also dont use v5 of ahi..use V4.. doesnt mean diddly squat if you have a ppc or not as there is no AHI ppc for classic, atleast not how its supposed to be..

also it would help to take 1 by 1 demo/product to make it clear what kinda problems you have.

oh and yeah... alot of the new'r ppc products uses ENV alot, so you should be pretty sure that there is no files in there which may do some weird things..ie duplicate files...and u press save and it doesnt save etc (known VA prob)

oh and yes, check how much MEMORY you have free on your RTG card, as most products needs ATLEAST 6 megs to run properly, some needs 8 to work at all, and there is a few which needs 12+ megs .

a1200/BPPC/BVision/OS3.9/Melody1200pro.
I  use CGX4. (The latest version i think).

OK. I am using AHI v4. I learnt from my past misstakes, so i won't upgrade untill i get my A1.

I don't think any PowerUP demos run.
Due to the powerup emu maybe?
The files load, but after that I get various errors..

OK, I will clean up my ENV then. Thanx for the tip.

How do I check that?

Well, I gave it another go last night after tweaking
my system a little, and it seems to like PPC demos
a lot bether now, i tried to run the latest Mawi demo
from workbench and it ran just fine!!! =)
I will give it the final test with planet potion today!
That one is a beast to get working! (Always have
been on my machine atleast!)
Infact almost all potion prods crash, except that
really old ppc/aga intro.. their first one I think.. what was it called again?.. hmm...

Could someone post a modified Startup-Sequence that will take me directly to shell, with all things set up for PPC/CGX/AHI? Like a boot without startup sequence for RTG/AHI/PPC that would be REALLY neat! I tried to make one, but i must have failed, as the demos didn't run properly, but from wb they did.

And last, a VERY good feat to the PPC demo page would be some info on some cranky prods, how to get them to run and such...
As I have experienced some PPC demos are bastards to run!

as i have little time now i will answer this only.....

Yes the site is supposed to have a entry for how to run the prods, and general tips ..but this i need more help for...as i have only P96.

anyway i have covered that info allready.

another thing:

some demos doesnt like pup emu, but its like 2 or 3 max out of all 60+ prods  i have here.

it seems its impossible to list RTG mem on cgx...LOL! , what a horrible api that is.... haha
on p96 we have atleast 5 ways of listing it..., one of em is via TINYMETER  
(i have asked around for info on this and it seems impossible to find a mem meter for cgx)

Ok.. i thought my system was cool with most
PPC demos now... but some Mawi demos hang right after the loading picture...
This gotta be a memory problem...

Hmm... someone, please post that startup script I
asked for in my earlier post! (3-4 posts up in this thread...)

i have such a script but it wouldntbhelp u in anyway ;( , but what u can do is make a simmilar to mine where u mount everything needed + a remote ENV: dir...ie make a double env system.. so u dont copy un nessesary files to ram, also kcon is wise to get over to your boot script + rtg + ppc + setpatch + sound and ofcourse ppc boosters and pup emu.

if you have 060 u should use latest setpatch + speedychip + oxypatcher and such aswell.

u better refer to an bppc user about this...as i dont have a bvision and i certanly dont use CGX.
