Hey 3vilc.
Good to see some more NZ Amiga owners on here :-)
Yes, it is possible to softkick to 3.1 using your 1200. It's not a hard process, and it doesn't add too much time to your startup. However, obtaining the Rom image is a bit of a tricky situation. Because the Kickstart Roms are still copyrighted ( not quite sure who owns the ip for the roms now, after Commodore and Amiga have changed hands so many times  ), it is considered breach of copyright and illegal to download roms. I'm fairly certain that it's deemed ok if you actually own a hard version of the rom you're downloading, but since you don't own the 3.1 roms, strictly you shouldn't download them. If you get an image from it by some other means, however, you'll be wanting to use skick to softkick.
SkickThrow the skick executable into Sys:C and then another copy of it into your Utilities drawer or wherever is convenient, and then add the line to the startup -
Skick devs:kickstarts\kick40068.A1200 QUIET
or something similar to that as the first command and it will throw it into ram and boot from it without ever showing the kick 3.0.
If you want to grab hard copies of the kick 3.1 roms, AnythingAmiga in Australia has them in stock.
HereHope that helps. :-)
