Look at his feedback.  Personally, I would find another auction.

I think that in all 3 auctions he was the winning bidder on his own item (e.g. what was that expression again? Shill bidding?).

Just look at the bidding log and you'll see a pattern.

I had to register here at Amiga.org just to add my two cents about this guy.

BEWARE OF MINESHAFT717!  HE IS A SCAM ARTIST!

Unfortunately, I'm one of his postitives!  He bid an outrageous amount for a ROM switcher, and although he paid within a couple of days, AND left me positive feedback when it arrived, he later disputed the charge on his credit card and I'm out the money!

I knew there was something fishy about him from the start.  He gave me shipping instructions to send to one name, but his Paypal payment was in another name!  He also used different e-mail addresses.

Again, I can't stress strongly enough, under no circumstances should anyone do business with this character.

Docnheimer : I have been so lucky so far not to have met such a buyer, but isn´t it safer in general to send the object to the address of the one who does the PayPal payment ?? I also don´t understand why this buyer can dispute the charge on his credit card  :-o If you take the winning bid of the auction and add the shipping costs, what problem can there be  :-? Really, please do tell me because this is something I really want to avoid in the future !!! If you have lost the object and the money then it´s absolutely no fun anyore on Ebay  :-o

In the US a credit card holder can dispute any charge, the vendor is then "charged-back" for the amount.  It's then up for the vendor to prove the charge was valid.  With PayPal in the middle, you're probably out of luck, as the credit card processing company would likely contact PayPal about the disputed charge.

Are you sure it was /his/ credit card?  Sounds more like the /actual/ credit card holder disputed the fraudulent charges.

Sorry no reply for so long.  As I said, I don't frequent Amiga forums much anymore.  I was trying to decide if I should use the guy's name or not, but what the hell...

He sent me two e-mails, both saying his name was Steve Perryman.  He then paid me with a PayPal account from Steven Mattes.  The PayPal e-mail address was buy@biditup.com.  I ran a whois on biditup.com, and the registrant was Steven Mattes, and the address was the same address I was shipping to.  I checked out the web site www.biditup.com and couldn't figure out exactly what this alleged company does.  It all seemed really hokey to me, but he had paid, and I didn't have anything concrete to go on.  Incidentally, every Ebay transaction up until this point had gone smoothly for me.  Also, the guy left me positive feedback.  It wasn't until a month later that the charge was disputed.  Oh, and I also shipped USPS with delivery confirmation.

So, conspiracy theorists...any ideas?

Paypal says they are conducting an investigation, and they will get back to me.  The disclaimer is that if the credit card company honors the chargeback, PayPal will do nothing, even though they said that I qualify for their protecion plan.  I may have to wait up to 70 days to find out. If I don't get my money back, my next question would be "just what am I paying PayPal for?"
