Laptop problem with(sorry) windows 2000
« on: April 03, 2005, 05:19:19 AM »
Hi
I have a friend who has just put a fresh install of windows 2000 on her 750mhz gateway laptop.
The machine boots up in 800x600,16 colors?? and well the problem is she cant change it and on her previous install she was able to have 1024x768.
Does anyone know the cause of this problem?
Thanks in advance.

Did you reinstall the drivers for the video chipset?. the drivers that Win2000 installed for the graphics card might be generic or out of date.

Agreed w/spyhunter. Most likely your windows 2000 (pro?) install is using 'generic' VGA drivers, which only give you basic functionality.

Once you install the driver disc everything should be fine, if you cant find it then post the model number of the laptop here and we'll help you find it.

We can also get some details about your onboard card using debug.exe (-d c000:0080) - but its easier to ask for the model number lol

You should install the drivers of the card just try to download them on the website of the manufacturer (they are often newer than on the website of your laptop)

Don't forget to change your monitor driver often "Plug & play monitor" use instead 1074x768 flat panel

can be important.
