Fastlane Z3 checksum errors
« on: March 30, 2005, 10:05:31 AM »
Hi,

I have the following config:
A3000/A3640(25mhz)/A2065/Picasso2+/Buster 11/FastlaneZ3 (56mb ram)/4,3Gb SCSI IBM hard disk

I have the following problem:
When I use my amiga after a certain time (don't know how exactly) i have some checksum errors on my boot disk
I use synchronous mode (10mbs), the cable seems to be OK, original cable from fastlane.

I thought it was a overheating problem but the 68040 have a very good fan: don't seem too hot, when i former had some overheating problems the errors disseapeared as machine getting cold but it is no more the case, i have the same problem when i use the disk with Winuae.

If it is a overheating problem i don't know what is overheating.

Should i use slow cable mode ??

Is there a way to repair checksum errors ? i tryed Disksalv but error remains.

Thanks

Is the boot disk on the a3000 scsi device or the Fastlane device? Make sure that the scsi chain from the fastlane is properly terminated. If the boot disk is on the A3000 scsi chain, make sure the RTC battery is not dead. This holds settings that control the a3000 scsi.

The disk is on the Fastlane card (i buyed it to have a reliable SCSI card because my a3000 & A3640 doesn't run properly)

I think there is no problem with scsi termination: i have one device witch is terminated.

I've seen somewhere that it is possible to "terminate" fastlane, does it have any interest ?

Thanks

@jlariv8957:

Yes, both ends of the scsi chain should be terminated. Check this link for more info.

Yes, SCSI termination is a major issue with a card like the Fastlane.  Mine was very finicky and only worked reliably when I had both ends of the chain set with ACTIVE termination.
