Freespace on 68k
« on: March 26, 2005, 07:47:27 PM »
Anyone here who successfully played Freespace on a 68k equipped amiga?
In that case I'm interested in what hardware/software setup you use, can't get past the Hyperion intro and into the game without a crash.

Do you have a properly set up Warp3D installation ? The 68k version requires Warp3D, for the PPC-Version it`s only recommendet.
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

Yep, Warp 3d is installed...used the one provided on the CD.
I'm using CybergraphX V3 which might be the prtob but I have the libs which is recommended for the Warp 3D version I'm using.  :-?

I would recommend using cgx4 or even better, P96 (my opinion).  :-)
Don“t have Freespace yet.

Have ordered CgX 4 from Vesalia but I'm too eager about trying the game, hehe
Managed to get it running without Warp3d yesterday...was like playing Battlefield with a Voodoo 3 gfx card, lol
Played the tutorial a bit but then disaster struck! my 4.3 gig Seagate SCSI hd had a hickup...after a reboot it died on me so now I'm back on IDE again  :-o
*back to the drawing board*
Anyone have a spare 4.3gig or bigger 7200rpm SCSI hd for sale?  :-D

It runs fairly slowly on an 060 and Warp3D with P96, but it's still just playable with all the detail turned off. I did have that problem with the game freezing at the intro, can't remember how I fixed it, but it involved chopping and changing drivers for my Voodoo. Actually, you can run the game in software rendering mode on a 68k, but it really isn't playable then :-)

that too but you asked for 68k so i answered about 68k on the mediator with blizzard 060.

runs like a joy on the 060 50 + w3d (voodoo3)

runs much better on my 1200 with 240mhz ppc with w3d ofcourse :-)

and it runs even better on my a1 with w3d aswell :-)

cheers

deadlus: so 25fps is slow????? , thats what i measure here on the 1200 with 060 blizzard and mediator with voodoo3 and i have details at MEDIUM.

but yes... the very last battle was a pain in the arse on the 68k. (that was slow but playable)-

cheers

Hmmm... Well then I have a problem with my setup (actually, I kinda suspected that anyway) In a lot of places I get 2-3 fps at medium detail, sound jumping all over the place, and just not playable when there's more than 4 or 5 enemies on screen (i.e. most of the later levels). Any ideas what might be causing this then? I've a Blizzard 1260 at 66MHz, Original Mediator with the MMCD chips, Voodoo 3-3000, Blizzard SCSI kit, 96MB, etc etc. I've played with the P96, Warp3D and Mediator settings trying to get it running better, but to no avail...
