Please help a complete newbie getting started. :)
« on: March 14, 2005, 09:33:27 AM »
Hello,I´m a little confused about what the requirements for using Internet on an Amiga (1200) are.
Basically, all I want to do is to be able to download software from Aminet.
Can I use WB 3.0 for this?Or do I have to upgrade to 3.5/3.9?
Or is it possible to download to my Mac and burn it to a CD so I can load it in the A1200 that way?

Thanks for your help/Logic

3.0 will do. However you might need to upgrade your hardware. More RAM as a minimum (4 MB Fast-RAM at least.)

Yes, it is. Most Amiga CD-ROM drivers are able to read Mac HFS CDs.

Bye,

Nice! :)

The driver is IDE-fix-97 (that´s the driver right?).Will it read Mac HFS?
Or is IDE-fix-97 just enabling the IDE?
Sorry for asking instead of just trying it,but I haven´t got the A1200 at home right now.

One more question, for basic image editing, games and some WB tweaks, would an Viper 1230 (68030 CPU) with 32MB RAM be enough,or am I forced to get the extremely expensive 68060 for that?

@ Logic

I'm not up on HFS discs being read on a 1200....

But as regards basic image editing and workbench tweaks, the 030 will be fine. I had an 030 with 32mb in my 1200 and I used Image FX and Brilliance to edit pictures. I am assuming the 030 will be 50mHz. If you want to mess around with animations and rendering then you'll need an 060 with as much RAM as you can get for it.

Actually,I was referring to the 1230/40MHz.
I didn´t know there was an 50MHz version.Where can I get it (preferrably in Europe)?
Image FX and Brilliance you say,are they any good? The only one I remember from the good old days is Deluxe Paint,is it bad knowadays?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions and the crappy English (Swedish dude),I hope you won´t get tired of me. ;)

Thanks //Logic

The main reason I got my accelerator card is the memory expansion.  40MHz will do ok but only if you see it for cheap.

Deluxe Paint is good for Anim files but otherwise you could get better results from  Personal Paint as for Brilliance it produces the best HAM8 color on the AGA chipset.  ImageFX is an old professional graphics editing package that does special effects.
