Installed 3.1, reboot > guru > reboot > guru
« on: February 15, 2005, 02:17:41 AM »
Hi!

I have an A1200 with 3.0 ROMs, Blizzard 060 with 48MB RAM and a 2GB IDE HDD. I used to run WB 3.0 on it fine, but I wanted to install 3.1 so I could upgrade my way to 3.9 (although I have no CDROM yet). So I got blizkick and softkicking to 3.1 works. So I softkicked to 3.1, rebooted with the WB 3.1 install disk and installed over the 3.0 installation. Everything went fine. And I rebooted the computer...
What it does is that it starts booting of the harddrive, then the power led flashes, and it reboots. Then it gurus, error 8000 000B Task 66027358. I press a button, and it loads some, reboots, gurus etc etc. I tried booting without the blizzard, that did not help. Neither did disable:ing cpu caches. It works if I boot without the startup-sequence though, so I did and looked what might be the trouble. I commented out setpatch and everything loads fine. Setpatch is needed though, isn't it? I got the latest setpatch version from aminet too, 43.6b. Still have 40.60 backed up if that's of any interest...
I also have the latest 68060.library and dummy 68040.library. How can I solve this?

Any help much appreciated!

Kind regards, Mathias

So all the people who has said "I've been softkicking 3.1 and using WB 3.1 for years without any problems" lied?

WB3.1 works on both 3.0 and 3.1 kickstart so no need to softkick for that. Make sure you have the 060 library installed or it will do just what you say it does. :/

The Problem is, that the new 3.1 installation has overwritten then 68040.library with the "full" one. You have to reinstall that dummy 68040.library that redirects all calls to the 68060.library.
Boot from a disk that has no setpatch in it`s Startupsequence (that triggers the guru) or boot without startupsequence at all and exchange the 68040.library and you are set.
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

What Lemmink and Brian said is right:
Reinstall the Blizzard 1260 software (just the dummy 68040.library is needed). Also check the Phase5 Accellerator section on http://amiga.resource.cx/ for the latest 68060.library update (46.15 I believe).
