Bvision and voodoo?
« on: March 15, 2005, 08:35:45 PM »
I have a a1200 with a blizzard ppc and a bvision grapics card. My question is, is it possible to have the bvision and run it along side a voodoo card through a meditor?

Cheers

Why?
Ditch the Bvision and use the Voodoo instead. No meaning of using both. Or better, buy a G-rex and use it with your Voodoo-card. With a G-rex you don't access all cards in the 8 MB window like Mediator do, since G-rex uses the BlizzardPPC's capabilitys for this.

But to answer your question: yes it is possible.

The only reason I see that u want to keep the bvision, is to have the bvision automon... If you do not have the automon, there is NO reason whatsoever to keep the bvision and the voodoo....

Pros and cons:

The BVision has superior image quality to the Voodoo (at least my BVision image quality is better than at least 3 different voodoo cards I have tried in both amiga and PC).

A typical Voodoo3000 card has considerably more memory.

The BVision is connected by a faster bus than the Voodoo (assuming a mediator1200 that is) - makes a difference for some video playback software.

The Voodoo has a much faster fill rate and more 3D features.

The BVision has an inbuilt monitor redirection for the early startup.

Out of intrest i have ide fix 97 to control my other devices, is there anything better and simpler as my skills and knowledge are not high!!

Hello,

Question about gfx card and A1200. Do you need 2 monitors for aga and bvision or both display can be use on the same monitor via the inbuilt monitor redirection feature you describe?

I think you have no choice but to use 2 monitors with voodoo/mediator combo isn't it?

You need 2 monitors for BVision and AGA, the same as with voodoo and AGA.

There's no real way of getting round it other than buying a monitor switch box so you can only use one monitor.

I was looking for a gfx board upgade for my A1200, but not anymore. I remember, with my A4000, running a Spectrum EGS gfx board with a passthrough cable and CyberGFX drivers and I was able to switch display on a single monitor.

2 monitor for me is simply out of question.

Too bad they did not release any gfx board with passthrough cable for the Amiga 1200 :-( may be it was impossible to do? but you know, C'est la vie! ;-)

I don't see why not, i use 4 monitors at the same time,
CVPPC + CV64 + AGA + VlebMotion :-D

The BVision resident thingymabob captures the graphics.library calls to get the early startup and boot menus displaying on the BVision. It even works if you boot into workbench *without* your bvision driver activated.

The reason it does this is to ensure you can actually get into your system if you've had a problem. It's a life saver if you don't have a PAL monitor and you can't get into workbench for some reason or your RTG is trashed.

AFAIK, the graphics.library interception patches are removed when the monitor driver for the BVision is activated, so you need an AGA compatible monitor still.

What it does not do (at any point) is to magically redirect AGA to the BVision. You still need a seperate monitor.

Ok thanks for the explanation.
