Help me with AmigaOne problem...
« on: February 21, 2003, 01:21:46 AM »
I am starting to build my AmigaOne system, and I need to know a couple of specifics here.
I'm not familiar with ppc motherboards.
All I've ever used is x86.

It's been said that the ppc board is a lot better technology that x86 boards.
I don't know.
But here are the questions.

1) I need to know specifics about the type of ram I need to purchase.
I will be going 512 Megs.  (two 256 meg chips)

2) I need to know specifics about how much power this board needs so I can choose a good power supply.

3) Will the AmigaOne and OS4 be compatible with lite-on cdrom burners and dvd players? (lite-on products)

4) Does the flipper actually work, and will it work on the AmigaOne?

5) What would be a good choice for video card?

Careful with those statements...

"Registered SDRAM ECC DIMM" support are not unique to PPC world.

I recall, they required the registered types. Not to sure about buffered or un-buffered types.
Amiga 1200 PiStorm32-Emu68-RPI 4B 4GB.
Ryzen 9 7900X, DDR5-6000 64 GB, RTX 4080 16 GB PC.

1) KVR1333X72RC3/512 Kingston Value RAM

2-5) Wait for a compatability list to be released.

I assume you don't have an A1 board yet or you would probably be on the Eyetech Dev List.

In the meantime you can goto the Unoffical AmigaOne Users list.

Hope this might help, it might not be 100% correct but that's what I know:

1) It uses REGISTERED SDRAM, look for the "reg" in the memory description when purchasing.

2) From what I know it uses standard ATX 250W or better power supply so any current PSU  should do the trick.  Get a 300W just in case you plan to have a LOT of internal peripherals ( Hard drives, CDROMs, etc...)

3) If they are standard IDE drives the answer is YES.  Otherwise, wait to see which SCSI card will be supported.

4) What's a flipper??  :)

5) Wait for the compatability list, if it goes well, we should be able to buy any popular video card.

Hope this helps  :-)
