mp3 - cdda via MakeCD?
« on: March 31, 2003, 08:37:21 PM »
How do I write mp3 files as cdda using MakeCD?  I got this working once, but can't for the life of me remember how.
Cheers

Hello lurkist,

Well you need Mpega. MakeCD then can turn mp3 to AIFF.
But personally I would recommend mpdecode.
A small utility which converts mp3 to AIFF.

A lot of times conversions with MakeCD got glitches and with mpdecode I never encountered these glitches in sound.

You can find these utils on Aminet.

Good luck!  :-)

Its simple, Just give it a list of mp3 files  as though they were ordinary wav/aiff files to burn.

as long as you have the required mpega.library installed it will auto decode them to cdda on the fly (or you can make cd im,age file first if you like).

Recomended to have PPC cpu if you want to mp3 ->cdda on the fly burning though ;)

I must say this is problematic in MakeCD.

I sometimes get strange errors on some points of mp3`s. I think there may be a (unhearable) glitch in that mp3 file. And it makes MakeCD gice error. You can pass that track or pad remaining part of the track with 0. I think its a problem with mpega.library (or maybe the command mpega in c: i have version 3.5)

I tried both of the versions mpega.library. that libmad version causes more of this to happen. I think if it happens, it happens always at the same point of the same mp3`s.

Secondspin can also do that for you.

No problems with MAKECD!

I burn 112-128kbps MP3 on the fly at 2x with my 060 (NOfpu mpega.library).
Just select the MP3's as CDDA audio. You also can select to make images of it and burn them afterwards. This always works.
About the glitches.  Yes, there are unfortunatly, but if you select ignore, you won't hear a thing AFAIK.
Otherwise you can use the libMAD version of MPEGA witch gives you better quality and I never had glitches with this one
(although I can forget on-the-fly burning ;-)).

Cheers,
