Catweasel/Budda Boot Problem
« on: December 10, 2004, 12:54:38 AM »
I just partitioned my HD to smaller sizes under 2GB so the Budda software would install to the HD. I connected my CDROM to the Catweasel/Budda card and powered up, nothing. I get power and a black screen but no boot up. The system just hangs. I disconnect the CDROM from the CW/Budda and it boots just fine. Reconnect cable and same thing, nothing on the monitor and no DF0 or HD drive activity, just a running PS fan. Why is this card stopping my A4000D from booting? I have 3.0 ROMS, a defunct KickflashOS4 card, with WB3.1. Thanks for any help.

Pleaase don“t be offended by my answer, but are you sure the IDE cable is connected to the CDrom as it should be or do you have to turn it over and connect it again ??? Sounds like an IDE problem of bad connection ... nothing serious ...

Are you sure it's not just the 30sec or so delay you're experience when there's no bootdevice on the onboard IDE header of the A1200/4000?

Either just put a small HD for the sys: on the internal HD or make and install the No IDE hack on the onboard IDE header to fool the system.

I have an buddha IDE controller in my A4000D and when I tried to connect a HD and a CD-Rom drive to the controler this happend:

HD and CD-Rom on the same channel, no HD :-?
CR-Rom pri channel and HD on sec channel, no HD :-?
HD on pri channel and CR-Rom on sec channel, HD and CD-Rom :-D

The harddisk was master all the time, both the CD-Rom and HD is of newer date.
And again if the ROM3.1 dosn't find a HD it will wait for a very long time.

Try to connect the devices, so the HD is master on Pri-channel og CD-Rom is master on sec-channel, it worked for me  :-D

Thank you my brother, it worked! I now just need to write another Budda disk so I can get the CDROM to work right. I was not sure if the HD would boot through the Catweasel/Budda without drivers installed but it looks like the HD booted as if the IDE connectors on the Budda are native on the Zorro III bus. It is just great! Thanks again.

Brian, I had the HD connected to the header the whole time. I just had the CDROM connected to the Budda that did not allow the system to boot when attached. I learned the HD along with the CDROM must be attached to the Budda to allow booting. Thanks for the link, I may need it when I get my KSOS4 to load 3.1 ROMS.

AFAIK the Buddha has it`s drivers in a flashrom, so it shouldn`t cause a problem.
Have you checked your version against that on the Individual Computers site ? Maybe there`s some updated drivers to get around the "CD only" lockup.
