Yes, the Oktagon does take ZIPs, the same type as the A2386 bridgeboard, so I think the same type as the A3000.

Only thing is the Oktagon is a Zorro-II card, so if you're using anything faster than a 14MHz 68000 or so, you're slowing your machine down...

Check out my shop! http://www.mutant-caterpillar.co.uk/shop/ - for 8-bit (and soon 16-bit) goodness!

Palpatine - I'll have to check the board again. Last time I looked I didn't really count them.

Spirantho - I'm just running a normal 7MHz 68k, so it won't matter. I often thought that A500 accelerators are a bit of a waste, especially GVP's '030 one because you still have to use a slow 16-bit bus...

ed - I just realised that was a reply to the wrong question

@scumble:

A500-accelerators are definately not a waste, they will make your old A500 fly compared to stock performance. Almost all accelerators (GVP included) have onboard 32-bit fastmem and will only utilize the 16-bit bus for accessing motherboard resources such as chipmem and thus the cpu-performance wont suffer.

But I don't think it would make much difference in graphical performance? I'm not clear on how much the CPU deals with - I guess the Workbench applications would be much better.
Generally the trouble is finding A500 accelerators - it doesn't seem that many people bought them.

@scumble:

The graphical performance of the chipset is ofcourse the same. Though keep in mind that when using something that requires some cpu performance such as the Workbench or a flight-simulator it is not the performance of the chipset that is holding it back and making it feel slow, it is the performance of the cpu. As I said earlier, it literaly flies when using an accelerator, especially when using the Workbench - take my word for it. If you yet havent tried out an accelerated Amiga, it is something you need to write down on your "todo-list" :=).

Hmm only 8? That's weird.

I've checked and there are indeed 16 ZIP sockets. I'll probably be fine with 4MB worth though - I can't see a use for an extra 8MB right now. How should I place an order?

I would go the full 8MB, I've only got 4MB in my A3000 and it isn't enough for playing several WHDLoad games, I'd love to get the full 16MB but I was recently quoted AU$400 :-o for 8MB worth of ZIPs alone. My only other option is to go for an 040 board that supports SIMMs, but I don't like the idea of an 040 because of compatibility issues. Decisions, decisions...

@Scumble

Easiest way to order would be through our webshop.

I have just added the product item here.

Cheers,
Ron

So, can two of those 4MB sets be used on Oktagon 2008 to get 8Mbyte RAM, for 50euros? (wanna be sure)
Where is computercity located?
Better sorry than worry.

@Orange:

It should, yes.

We're located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The amount of stock available is limited though...

Cheers,
Ron

Ok Ron, I put through an order for one 4meg set. The shipping came out a little more, at 9 euro. What's the deal with the VAT? You still have to charge it for international orders? Although, considering it's the EU I suppose it works slightly differently.

@Scumble

Thanks!

Is the 9 Euro ok for you? It is 9 because that method is an ensured shipping service, we can also do it for 5 but without insurance.

The € 25 price already includes the VAT, we can only ship at 0% VAT to companies with a regsitered EC VAT number...

Cheers,
ron

Ah yes. I didn't quite add it up right in my head. The postage is no problem, as long as everything stays intact!
