Liquid Kids
« on: April 27, 2005, 12:32:25 PM »
Hey All.  I don't know if this has been covered already, but I couldn't find anything by searching, so I figured I'd post it.  During my browsing today, I found out that the guys over at EAB (English Amiga Board) managed to get a working copy of this unreleased game for the Amiga.  Apparently one of the programmers on the original project had a beta (complete game, couple of bugs) of the unreleased game and sent an ADF to EAB.  This was a couple of years back, (2003) but I only just found out, and I'm assuming there may be some here who didn't know.  I am not sure of its legality, as it was released by the programmer, not by Ocean (obviously), so I will not post direct links.  However, I have tried it and it's extremely cool having this game released on the Amiga  :-D There was a WHDLoad install floating around on EAB, did anyone grab it while it was up?  The one on the WHDLoad website appears to be perpetually stuck at 98%

Wasn't Liquid Kids the sequel to The New Zealand Story?

Indeed it was, and until this copy was found, it was never released for Amiga, only PC-Engine.

EDIT - Just copied it to a disk and ran it on my 2000.  It's truly astounding why this was never released.  It's absolutely amazing how much detail was packed into this conversion and how faithfully it recreates the Arcade version, even on a stock A2000.  It also lives up to the NZS legacy - very, very fast gameplay.  Typical Taito  :-D
I just hope they manage to get hold of Snow Bros. (Unreleased Amiga Master was found, not yet released though)  :-)

I have the arcade-original for Raine.  Not a bad game, very cutsy and plenty of good platform features like shops, power-ups and puzzles.

My guess is it didnt get release, as it came rather late in the A500's life, the arcade machine was released in 1990.

Most arcade systems of that period had the venerable MC68000 at their heart, so its no huge surprise a conversion to Amiga was possible, eventhough the CPU clock on an A500-A2000 is a fair bit slower.

Taito F2:
Main Processor: MC68000 (16-bit; 12 MHz)
Sound: Z80 (8-bit; 4 MHz); YM2610

If you go on EAB and look at the faq there is a link to the WHDload games and Liquid Kids beta is on there.  Hint:  Magix
Going Bananas over AMIGAs since 1987...

Looking for Fusion Fourty PNG ROMs V3.4?

@ TjLazer

Thanks for that, glad to finally have that  :-D

Yeah, there are so many games that were unreleased by the end of the miggy's (commercial) lifespan.  I just got a box of over 1500 disks, it would be nice if some undiscovered gem were in there
After all this time, I don't know how Putty Squad, etc haven't been found, but here's hoping they will.  Check out the EAB boards sometime, they're doing some good work over there with unreleased stuff.  CFOU (of WHDLoad fame of late) has found and uploaded quite a few new gems, and Snow Bros. (another Taito game) appears as though it may show up soon.  :-D

It plays the intro for a few seconds and then it gives me this:

Exception "Access Fault" ($7008)
PC = $707C8
Byte Read from $81E7E

I'm using an A1200 with BPPC/BVision and the latest version of WHDLoad installed (not reg.) Any suggestions?
