What to do with A500?
« on: November 19, 2004, 02:54:50 AM »
Hi all

I have an A500 system w/1084S, GVP A500+ HD/8mb RAM, Mega Midget Racer 68030/33mhz/2mb. The keyboard has started with the "flashing capslock of death" once the machine warms up (you can usually power it up and work awhile but at the first reset the keyboard dies). It's the one flash code indicating broken keyboard controller.

What should I do with it? Is it likely the actual keyboard that's dead? I've swapped CIAs for no improvement.

My choices are fix, part out, or sell complete & non working. I have no emotional attachment to it.

Perhaps some kind Canadian will take pity on me and offer a working keyboard.....

Suggestions?

My grandfather's A500 does this.  He replaced the keyboard and one of the ICs (don't know which one) to no avail.

The plastic insulator might be pierced with chip legs, check that.

Hi all,

Thanks to a local enthusiast with a basement full of old stuff I'm back up and running with a fresh keyboard. Just now doing a 'burn in' to see if it will fail again when hot!
