HD LED mod on Amiga 500
« on: August 12, 2004, 02:47:41 AM »
I will be getting a Novia HD kit with AdIDE soon for my A500.  I will be mounting a 1.2G Laptop HD inside the A500!  But I wanted to also mount a LED on the A500 to show HD access.  I have an idea:  I have a Atari Falcon030 computer that has a 8G laptop HD installed and the way the Atari handles the LED on this computer is interesting.  The HD and Floppy use the same LED!  So I was thinking it would be cool to do the same thing on the A500.  Maybe going at it a step further, by installing a dual color LED?  Could I tap into the LED with the HD and also have the Floppy hooked up as well?  Any thoughts?

Should be possible. Pin 39 carries the activity signal for the LED.

This link might at least point you in the right direction.

Cool thanks.  I shall try this.  I wonder if hooking it up to the existing floppy LED is a good idea?  I am not a electronics guru but think that this may not be a good idea.  Like if thed floppy and HD are accessed at the same time the LED may blow! :(

Hey, its 7.30 and I ain't slept yet, so if this comes out nonsensical, I have an excuse...

edit: cut out babbling about diodes

So after all that convoluted waffle, it shouldn't 'blow' the LED, or even come close, but it might possibly shorten its (long) life I suppose. But hey, LEDs (at least yer normal green etc) are dirt cheap!

Bah, I need some kip.
