Hard disk don't mount automaticly os3.9
« on: July 31, 2004, 11:55:41 PM »
Hello,

I have os3.9 and 2 hard disk on ide /first master 2 gig with os3.9 and second slave 1 partition 10gig).
All were ok since I desinstall idefix97 that I replace with CACHECDFS that came with the os3.9(for scsi cd player).
Now the hd 10giga doesnt mount automaticly, at each start I have to mount it with the app. /utilitie/mount. I tryed to install and format it again but it's always the same. Can someone confirm that ffs from os3.9 support >4gig.
If yes, why my Hard disk doesnt mount automaticly ?
if no, what can I do to get my 10 gig partition working well ?

I had this problem aswell, but I had a 20GB hd as bootable with OS3.9 and the 2nd one was only 2.4GB used for backups.

No matter what I did I couldn't get the 2nd hd (on the same chain as the other hd) to auto mount.  It didn't bother me that much because it was a back up, but I know it must be annoying you.

Re-installing and formatting won't make a difference.  I do vaguely remember a "mount on boot" option somewhere but I couldn't honestly sya where it was, or even if it was for an hd.

Leave the hd as it is, I'm almost positive you won't need to reinstall/format it.

Sure OS3.9 supports HDD's larger than 4GB. But are you u sure that you enabled "automount partition" in HDToolbox? Or are the jumpers set correct? Btw, i have maybe a similiar problem too.
I have a 30GB and 120GB HDD. The 30GB is my boot HDD where the SYS is installed. The 120GB is for storage and backups etc.
The problem is, when i keep them both in the same IDE line, the 30GB (smaller) HDD won't boot because the larger 120GB HDD get's the highest priority and prevents the system to booting. Even when i have the jumpers set correctly and "bootable" isn't checked in HDToolbox.
Try to put the 10GB HDD on the other IDE chain and try again...

Can you tell me where is the "automount" in htoolbox". I don't see it.
I know that was in the hdinsttool from os3.5 but I don't see it in hdtoolbox.
It's probably my problem!

I read somewhere that it would be better to use sfs with large hd. Is sfs in os3.9 ???

sfs is freely avaliable on Aminet:

US Aminet (sometimes down)

UK Aminet (more reliable)

Only install SFS if you know what you're doing, or have a good few practices on empty partitions.  You'll lose all your data converting from ffs to sfs so back up all the important stuff.

I check the *auto mount" in hdtoolbox.
But it doesn't work, I always have to mount the hard disk with /Utilities/mount.
Is there a possibility to mount it in the startup_sequence with an instruction ???

I know you can do:

mount devs:storage/dosdrivers/cd3

To mount your cd drive from cli.

mount <device name here>

might work for your hard drive (using HD1 or whatever you called it in the toolbox).  Try it from workbench's cli before putting it in the startup-sequence.

Well, do you have Boing Bag 1 & 2 installed with your OS3.9. If not, install them now.
