Hi again...

You say 115kb works for you via Miami?  Which version of Miami are you using to use a Null Modem cable.  I just thought Miami was for the TCP/IP stack?

Any chance of a link?

Many thanks

Macca.

What model both of you use, do you think it makes any difference?

Don't buy 3COM anyway! :) What about me, I use cnet cn40 - rather old one. Maybe the best thing is moneyback?

Well here at the moment the only one I have to try tonight is (and you may have guessed it):

3COM Megahertz LAN 10/100
Model: 3CXFE574BT

Anybody know what drivers I will need to potentially get it running? Recommended software (all I need to do is transfer files over to the Amiga - it took me 8 hours to transfer the equivalent of 40 disks last night so you can see my need to get this working).

*EDIT: Would I also be able to connect the Amiga to my Netgear Router and download the files off my PC via a FTP client / daemon setup (obviously the Amiga acting as the client)?  I think that would be the easiest approact for me.

Many thanks for all your help,

Macca.

@Jose

Apollo RE450CT and
NetGear FA410TX

Both gave the abovementioned speed on 060@64.

Sad to say after searching Aminet - I'm still not sure which Miami I need.

Also how does the Amiga LAN card get an IP - obviously my DHCP server which push out an IP but I don't know if the Amiga end will accept it?

Does Miami do that side as well?

Cheers,

Macca
P.S. Email me the stuff if you get chance so I know I have the right one:

Thanks mate, I eagerly await them..

Don't suppose anyone knows if there are any generic PCMCIA LAN card drivers?

I have not tested it yet on my Amiga so can't comment but getting prepared for when I get home...

3COM Megahertz LAN 10/100

As far as I know, that card is not capable of being supported on Amiga.  (I think all 3COM Megahertz models are actually Cardbus cards.)

The only 3Com ones that work are the older Etherlink III style cards (most common is the 3C589.)

The Amiga is only capable of using original PCMCIA devices, and there is no "generic" PCMCIA network driver, as each card family is implemented slightly differently.

The only two families that are supported are:
3c589 (Etherlink III chipset) (through 3c589.device)
generic NE2000 chipset (through cnet.device)

With a little searching at the local swap, you should be able to find one of these cards for $5-$15, though.  I have a 3c589 sitting here looking at me, but I haven't had a chance to copy over Miami and try to get it installed properly.  (In fact, up until a couple weeks ago, I had no idea where I saved my Miami keyfile...  Which is seriously a problem, since you can't confirm old ones, or even buy new ones, anymore.  :-(  )

Well I'll give it a try tonight - can't hurt? lol

I do actually have an Etherlink III card here as well but I'm missing the bit off the end (though a mate at work might have one).

Will report on how it goes - wish me luck!

Hi mate.

The problem is definately your end I'm afraid you are trying to send a virus to me (not deliberately I know).

You need to remove the virus before you can send them to me.

If you go here:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

And click on 'Scan Now. It's Free' that should hopefully sort you out.

Cheers mate,

Macca.

It's true that that card isn't compatible (it's not Cardbus, but I think it needs DMA), but many 3Com Megahertz cards do work.
