Real HD drive for A1200 modification for A4000
« on: July 21, 2004, 06:45:10 PM »
Hello,
Information about "real HD drive for A1200" : http://www.amiga-hardware.com/therealhda357.html

I have seen on the web that were 2 model (one for a1200 and one for a4000)
here " These drives feature high quality Teac drive mechanisms
and perform in the same manner as Commodore's original Chinon 357A
HD drives, requiring absolutely no software patch.  The only
requirement for this drive is that your computer be equipped with
OS 2.1 or higher.  Currently this drive is available as an internal
model for A4000 or A4000T and is configurable as either df0: or df1:
via a jumper.  There is also an internal model available for the
A2000/A2000HD/A2500 computers and is configurable as either df0: or
df1: via a jumper.  Lastly there is an internal model available for
the A1200 computers and comes configured as df0: "

I have found one for the A1200 and I want to install it in my A4000D.
Can someone tell me which modification I have to do on the floppy drive to get it to rub in the A4000.

My floppy is the sony one.

Thank you

None? I think they're just physically different. But why don't you just give it a try ? Shouldn't hurt. I take no responability though 8-)

Yeah, I think you'd just need to fit a face plate to the drive.  (A1200 drives use a faceplate built into the case)

[edit] -- removed a paragraph that was wrong.  (My brain isn't here today)

I have tryed it, the light of the drive is ok a few seconds than the amiga return to the start logo.
I think there is a difference, on the webseite that explain the real hd,
it says that with a teac drive there is minor modification to made  on the drive but not on the sony one.
I have open the sony and I can see 2 wires connected to point 6 uand 14 on the interface and somethings is cut on the platine.

I aske me if I could remove the 2 wires and repare the "cut" point.

Any idea ??
Thanks

Well, there's a jumper on the A4000 mobo that regards the functioning of the Floppy drive, actually there's two I think. Make sure you have them set correctly. Check the www.amiga-hardware.com site on the A4000 model for jumper settings.
