Adf 2 disk and others all say no disk in df0
« on: July 14, 2004, 10:30:44 PM »
Ads2disk, Adfblitzer, tsgui...

They all keep telling my there is not disk in df0, even when I try with other drives.
I know my drives are perfectly fine, could it be because i am using pc disks with tape over the second hole?

no its got nothing to do with the disks you are using you need to install crosdos (comes with some versions of workbench), please post more details on your amiga and what version of workbench you are using, for more help.

I don't think CrossDos is what he's looking for.

Can you access disks at all through the CLI?  (ie. CD DF0:, DIR, etc.)

Try DISKWIZ.  I like it much better than ADF2DISK or ADFBLITZER.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Also, what is the exact command you are trying to execute.  Perhaps there is something wrong with the syntax.

Yes.  You should only use DS/DD disks on standard 880K Amiga disk drives.  NEVER USE HD DISKS!!!!

Type the following from CLI: adf2disk filename.adf

Make sure that adf2disk is in your C directory.

@Doomy

Thats not the source of his problem, even if HD disks will have a shorter life-span in a DD drive, they will still work for quite a while...

@Deltawolf

If you have Crossdos activated, and you insert a PC-formatted disk in the drive, it wont turn up as DF0:, it will probably turn up as PC0:, in which case you have to format the disk as an Amiga disk instead. Turn off Crossdos and try again.

Or perhaps you are using a Catweasel? Drives connected to a Catweasel will get different unit names than if the drives were connected directly to the Amiga.

What are you talking about.  He is using AMIGA formatted disks, so why would he need CrossDOS?  I use ADF2DISK all the time and I NEVER have to load up CrossDOS first.  THINK about what you are saying before you say it !!!!!

@Doomy

Before trying to transfer the ADF:s to Amiga disks, he must somehow get them to the Amiga... He might have been transferring them by disk and Crossdos... He doesn´t clarify this in his post... So at least in my head it is completely possible to assume that Crossdos might have something to do with it...

So why don´t YOU think about what YOU have to say before YOU #¤#&!%?! SAY IT!!!

@BoingBoss: I agree, all those people answering here must be drunken.

@DeltaWolf:
Whenever you insert a disk into one of the drive, an Icon must appear on the Workbench desktop. If it does not appear, your disk drives are faulty, they don't recognise disk changes.

Does it really say there is no disk in the drive, or does it actually say there is no *DOS* disk in the drive ?

If the latter than it tells you, the disk is not formatted in AmigaDOS format and it cannot read from nor write to it.

In tsgui you can enable the "format during write" option, then it will format the disk on the fly. If you want to use one of the other programs, you first have to format the disk before you can use it (or check if they have a format option either).

Bye,
Thomas

OK, Ok , Ok

Right, I can read disks fine, write to them, etc. Its only this type of program that the problem.
Getting files from my pc to amiga is easy because i just use the lan. I already have crossdos becuase it came with my 3.9 OS.

When i instert disks they popup on my workbench and i can open and do what i like to them. Plus i have 3 floopy drives and they all do the same with those programs.
I my self think it could be the disks thats the problem, i know i shouldnt be using HD disks. The strange thing is I managed to do it fine once or twice and i managed this by ignoring the errors and just keep retrying.

To answer the question on syntax, well there is none, you just load up the app, and click write or read, nothing more...
