SLAYER will issue Reign In Blood Live: Still Reigning on September 28, 2004 on American records. Here's the official press release:

For the first time in the band’s long career, fans will be able to see the original Slayer line-up performing an entire concert live on DVD when the band releases Reign In Blood Live: Still Reigning on September 28, 2004. The DVD will have an approximate 75-minute running time and will retail for $14.98.

On Reign In Blood: Still Reigning, the original members of Slayer - Tom Araya (vocals, bass), guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and drummer Dave Lombardo (who permanently rejoined the band in 2003) - will perform in its entirety Reign In Blood, the 28-minute, 1986 classic considered to this day the pinnacle album of its genre.

“Reign in Blood is our signature record, and if people think that it helped set the path for that genre of music, that’s great,” said Araya. “It’s a record that means a lot to all of us in the band - it was our first record for a major label, and our first record with Rick Rubin who gave it unconditional support.”

Reign In Blood: Still Reigning will be directed by Dean Karr (IRON MAIDEN), and is set to be shot this Sunday, July 11 at the Civic Center in Augusta, ME.  Ten cameras, including three hand-held mini-DVs, will capture Slayer throughout the day and evening, filming an abundance of footage and interviews shot backstage, on the band’s tour bus, and live on stage.

In an effort to revisit the look and feel of the time, the band will have a special Reign In Blood stage backdrop, and has recreated some of the original stage banners from the mid-80’s Reign In Blood-era tour dates, which incorporate the Slayer eagle and the controversial upside-down crosses that are part of the lighting rig.  And some special on-stage surprises are planned for the DVD.

“If what we’re planning for the final 45-seconds of the song ‘Raining Blood’ looks half as cool as we hope it will,” added guitarist King, “the kids will be blown away. And we’ll probably have to replace all of our gear!”

Slayer play the Main Stage at this Summer’s Ozzfest, due to kick off this Saturday, July 10. On the Ozzfest offdays, Slayer will co-headline a slew of concerts with JUDAS PRIEST or SLIPKNOT.

"RAINING BLOOD! FROM A LACERATED SKY!"

I don't really listen to much metal these days, but this is one thing I might be persuaded to purchase. It truly is a classic.

I feel like getting hold of the people who listen to Shi tknot , Linkin Park, etc and making them hear this and say, "THIS is real metal!"
This is when metal wasn't trendy, when people didn't wear hooded tops and hang around skate parks, when to be a metaller was to be different from the norm, to be a hairy misfit clad in black, rather than to be trendy and do what all your mates at school did.

/sorry, rant over :-)

@Cyberus

While I agree with the theme of your post, i have to disagree about Slipknot. Nu-Metal in general is pathetic. Linkin Park being called metal does nothing but piss me off to no end. However Slipknot on the other hand, i think many old school metal heads (like myself) are too quick to write them off assuming it's another KoRn or Limp Dipsh|t.

Slipknot's first 2 albums had were metal through and through. The first album had a little bit off crossover to it, but it could be forgiven by the sheer angriness of the album. By the Second album Iowa, that cross-over was scrapped and it was just plain heavy. Slipknot's newest album isn't bad, but it's a little too polished. Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come. Don't get me wrong it's good, but doesn't seem to have quite the anger or overall heaviness of Iowa.

The only thing I will say is watching interviews with them, without the masks while doing their solo stuff was painful. What a bunch of dweebs:-P I keep thinking oh shut the hell up,  put the masks back on and play something. :lol:

Slipknot is from Iowa, and the drummer (one of them) I belive his name was Joey, is from a small town called Oskaloosa. (where I went to college) I worked with his girlfriend for quite some time and had chance to meet this person a couple of times in 1996 or so. I met the whole "band" one day at a Pappa Johns.

Few things to say, young men from Iowa are dweebs. That poor girl broke up with mr. SlipKnot and went to college!! (bad choice)

That, and I own two copies of SlipKnot demo cd's.

I was stunned when I moved back to PA and suddenly, I start seeing SlipKnot videos on MTV. Last thing I knew they were playing clubs in Des-Moines for like 100$ a gig.

@redrum

I accept I got a bit carried away there, and slagged off Slipknot without really hearing them, which I shouldn't ever do of course :-(
I should know better! But you're right, I do associate them with all the nu-metal bands (urgh, would a horrible name!).
Perhaps I should go and hear them before I pass judgement...

Its just that when I worked in a record shop a few years back, it seemed that every 14 year old kid who came in the shop wanted a slipknot t-shirt or hooded top. (In fact, my friends renamed the shop "Music Stop" to "Hooded Top Stop" because we did so well out of this business) But it seemed more like fashion, than people actually liking the music. People seemed to base what they listened to not on what they liked, but what it was trendy to like.

Now, that's something I simply must buy :-D

I have to agree with red on the Slipknot thing.  They're more old thrash metal than anything else.  Only some of their songs are commercial (just take a look at their debut - only about 6 songs out of 20 would ever get played anywhere).

But they're still no competition for old skool thrash :-D

Heh. Slayer will always remain the only band that has ever managed to scare me. How?

By playing 'Raining Blood' on VH1. :-D
