A4091 SCSI card power problem
« on: July 05, 2004, 08:06:17 PM »
I have a 4091 here that has a flakey/dead power connector.  Any HD attached will power up then lose power and not work.  Sometimes it works for a minute then drive gets errors, other times drive is not seen at all.  I tried a power connector from PS to the drive and card works fine.  So connector is bad.  I tried retouching pins with solder but it did not help.  Any tips on getting it fixed?

Not sure man,

Usually when the card fails to power up devices, you really couldnt get it fixed unless maybe someone knew exactly what parts to replace so that it wont lose its power.  But if all possible, i always thought instead of using the motherboard's power, just use the power supplies just so that your boards have plenty of power cycling around it.

Are you using the Power connector on the A4091? The A2091 had notoriously bad Power connector, not being able to draw enough current from the +12V connector.if this is the same case my suggestion is to use to Power connector for the A4000 Power supply.

Before I converted to a Towered A4000 I had to uses an external SCSI Box to Power all my peripherals.

@TjLaZer:

Make sure the four round metal parts of the molex-harddrive-connector havent become too wide by pushing them together a bit.
