Serial problems with Amiga 500
« on: March 09, 2012, 04:03:16 PM »
Hi guyz!
I just got nullmodem serial cable for my Amiga. Some guys said me, that model I bought will work. (It's this one: http://www.verkkokauppa.com/fi/product/3549/ntr ) But I instantly got an problem, when I tried to transfer anything to my Amiga. I have tried Amiga Explorer and ADF Sender Terminal. I have set the serial settings correctly and so, but I cannot get the "**BREAK" message, when you need to press CTRL+C. I have tried everything...
I am now using my old Win98 pc to transfer files, because it has an serial port (actually 2 of them).
Thanks

-Eemil
Just some beginner stuff: 2 Amiga 500s, external FD, 512kb expansion mem, RGB Scart, some random joysticks , Amiga mouse (Tank model) and some floppies... And a dead Commodore 64C with Datassette cassette drive and RGB->composite wire. And some tapes, self made with computer and normal recordable cassette deck :)

Thanks for fast answers!
I just tested Serial port 2, and guess what, it didn't work at all! It even didn't want to start transfer the data. And it's not surprise if serial ports are broken because I got that computer totally free :D

So the next thing is to get a new computer or to get USB to serial converter to my laptop?

I'm not surprised.

Most new computers do *not* come with serial ports.

I would suggest getting a USB to serial converter.  I've been extremely happy with the converters that are based on FTDI's chips -- their drivers are certified, and work well.

Based on the link you posted, which I was think was Finnish, I'm sure you have some different local suppliers than in the US.  I'm sure we could find a local source for one if you have trouble.

Good luck.

I don't mean brand new computer. I mean not so old Windows XP computer that has serial port. I had pentium 3 xp computer that had serial, but I was just too stupid and I threw it out. :( My Win98 computer doesn't even have USB ports :hammer:

I think I'll get an old XP computer more cheaply than USB to Serial converter. :D
But thanks for answer.

BTW: Theres a Belkin's converter (in same site, where I bought cable): http://www.verkkokauppa.com/fi/product/14777/qjgc but it's quite expensive, when my Amiga 500 pack with external FDD, PSU, mouse and 1MB ram cost only 22€.

Ok, I got a "new" Windows 98 computer for free. In this one I get **BREAK message in Amiga and so... But how to transfer something to DF1? I don't want to swap disks all the time, and I have external floppy. Can't transdisk use that?
Thanks

Hi!
One more question, ok?
So, how to transfer that Transwarp to floppy, that I don't need to start Workbench every time, when I want to transfer ADF?
Thanks
