Is A router necessary?
« on: September 20, 2003, 02:56:09 PM »
Ok, thanks for all your help so far, my friends pC and amiga are networked, and I'm able to share files (one way at least, I have to register miamiDX). I have given up on the existing NTL line and modem and ordered a new package, which is getting installed on wednesday. The two computers are connected via  a hub, but someone told me that a router is necessary to connect both computers (or iven more in the future) to the internet. Is this right? I'd rather not shell out more money if I don't have to. I'm sure I read in the tutorial htmls I got from mediator site that I can configure my amiga to act as a gateway and have all the other computers connect to that. possible? Pros/cons?

PS this has to be the most amout of "get my amiga online" type messages I've ever seen on a.org! :-o

I'm running os3.9 on my amiga, friends PC is running 98. WHich would be better to directly connect to the net? (i would prefer my amiga to act as gateway) Anyone done this using either genesis (Iwould prefer to use this if possible, as I don't want to register MiamiDX when I have the full genesis thnat came with os3.9) or Miami?
