Erm... I don't think I'd do that.That stuff stinks and leaves a slimey film no matter how much you try to wipe it off, It's better for use on your car or bicycle or other mechanical things. Your best off to use a clean dry cloth like it says in the manual.
I used to be into mountain biking in a big way, and you're right about the film, which is why serious riders do not use WD40 on their bikes either, you use proper chain lube...
