I'm pretty sure the memory would be internal to the Realtek chip (the one with the crab on it, which is the ethernet controller itself), which would require some serious SMT equipment to desolder and transplant.
That 'off by one' problem is interesting... wish I knew what it could mean. Anyone bothered to contact Individual Computers for a rough diagnosis, at least?
