Good call.
If I was in the market for a new X64 processor I'd buy an eight core FX.
Maybe Intel has some higher performing CPUs, but the combination of eight cores and an affordable price is unbeatable.
And Win7 is better at handling that processor than older versions of Windows (XP can't deal with it).
But I doubt Win7 will be supported for 20 or 30 years.
The FX makes a good linux core too.
I'm just really fond of alternative ISAs.
Even if Microsoft pulls the plug on Windows 7 completely I do not think hackers would care much for a niche market like mine who uses Windows 7 which would be 0.4% compared to say Windows 10 which would be 98%. I think they would focus on the bigger fish and attack them than a small fry like me in the 0.4% margin.
Also I can always download third party security major if they decide to target my computer...for what? I don't know. All there is are just games and movies and Amiga stuff nothing else to look at.
BUT SAY for argument sake...that I am the target of attack because I am using Windows 7...ok..fine...all I have to do is migrate to say Ubuntu 15 (when that comes) and my problem solved. In fact, it is cheaper SINCE IT IS FREE and I do not have to spend throwing what seems to be a very good hardware out the window just because Microsoft says I need to buy a new computer. No I don't. Do I use my PC to play games? NO!
I can't remember the last time I bought a PC game ever. Do I play games? Sure. But I use consoles like PS3, PS4 etc for that purpose.
Can I do everything right now I need in my Windows that I can do in Ubuntu...100% yes I can. Even if I have to use Microsoft Visual Studio for whatever reason...I alreaady have a legal copy of Windows 7 that soon will be expired and outdated and no longer supported...I can use VMWare...install Windows 7 there...install Visual Studio there and problem solved. What if VMWare support say more modern Windows OS and I need to use the latest bang OS to run programming tool? Then I buy the latest version of WIndows...say Windows 10 for example or whatever...I install it in my VMWare and use it to program for my work or my own personal need.
In the end of everything even if I have to buy something...200 dollars for Windows is still cheaper than buying an entire computer where as my 8 core system is GOOD ENOUGH. How much can I see difference between 8 core over 32 core...anyways?
