WiFi USB for A1200
« on: March 27, 2013, 12:01:00 AM »
I need someone to help me. I am looking for a very good USB WiFi for A1200 that is compatible 100% and that it does not require a single non-existent driver for the A1200. Meaning, when I put the WiFi USB into my A1200, my A1200 will see it right away with whatever driver it have and activate it and bang I am online...can anyone help me find a USB WiFi like that.

I will check with AROS community but in the meantime does anyone else have an idea of A VERY GOOD USB SUB that allows me to have A1200 online in WiFi via USB? I don't care if the transfer rate is equivalent of a 56k modem...as long as it can go online to do Wookiechat peacefully and sabreMSN. Thanks in advance.

Nope. Doesn't exist. Sorry.

Your only options for wireless are the PCMCIA slot or a wired USB ethernet adapter plugged into a wireless bridge like this one.

Wait...does that actually work the wireless bridge? I can just get a netgear or easynet wired from amigakit.com then I can hook the wired one into this wirelress bridg and bang..bingo i am connected?? What is the catch?

Let us forget EasyNet from AmigaKit and lt us go to Netgear wired from eBay. I buy Netgear wired...I buy this device...I hook the wired cable into the device...then what?

What do I need to do to get the device to communicate with my telus1105 router where it have WPA/WPA2 security on with a password key to enter? How do I configure that in the bridge? Is it a hardware configuration or software configuration so the bridge can community with my telus router? If it is a hardware configuration how do you go about doing it? If it is a software configuration can my Amiga 1200 do it? Are there steps to be done in OS 39 to configure it through software side? What driver I need that support WPA/WPA2 security? Is it still prism version 2.4?

Have there being actual confirmation that someone got this bridge working in their Amiga 1200 or is this just pure speculation and hoping? Is there a video tutorial that shows step by step how to configure this in their classic Amiga? Is there even written article about configuring their system? You can understand before I cough up money I need to clear everything and confirm 100% that this actually works and how to make it work. Like what I did earlier in how to install my USB Sub, to avoid burning my Amiga or my USB Sub I went through pages and pages of help and assistance and confirmation before installing it..do you guys remember? Well, the same here...I need to make sure I get a full picture in how this works before I click buy it from Amazon.

The catch is that you probably need to configure the bridge using a PC or another device with a modern web browser, but otherwise that's it. I use this kind of setup on an A4000 with an X-Surf card.

These bridge devices were typically $80-$90 last time I looked at them. I think I got mine for much less, but it's good to see they're generally cheaper now.

Just to confirm this is the one eBay:

That is the one I used in my test if you read my link above. And you can get a good idea of the speed difference of using USB vs PCMCIA.

You'll use a regular PC to set it up via the web interface and supplied instructions. I used my netbook. Aweb/IBrowse probably won't cut it.  Configure MIAMI to use the Ethernet and DHCP.

Its very simple and works very well. The WNCE2001is very nice and small and comes with a nice thin ethernet cable...

Hope that helps. If you have an questions I may remember what to do.

I just have one question to ask. What is the PCMCIA NetGear wired 16 bit version called that works on my A1200 PCMCIA? I do not have that card anymore myself.

Why would I avoid NetGear? What other brand would you recommend then? OK is this the card you are talking about: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Netgear-CardBus-10-100-Ethernet-LAN-Adapter-PC-Card-FA410TX-/110895838228?pt=US_Laptop_Network_Cards&hash=item19d1e83414

Just to emphasize the name of the card end with TX.

I do not want WiFi..they are non functional and non working. I want wired PCMCIA card. Does anyone know any link in eBay or what to search in eBay for a compatible 100% PCMCIA Ethernet card that works in the Amiga 1200 with no additional drivers?

The thread title states otherwise. ;)

Save yourself the hassle and just go to http://www.amigakit.co.uk and by one of their easy network cards.

As long as easynet wired card works the same as netgear without problems I am with you there!!

Yeah...it may have being stated there when I thought a USB version was available since it all went back to PCMCIA again...I decided to change my mind. From vast experience, frustration, upgrades and hassle I got nothing more than trouble with WiFi and no success. Maybe where I live WiFi is not an option for Amiga...but again, Amiga's lacking of latest hardware, software and driver renders the concept of having a WiFi almost impossible. And already it is impossible to have it through USB.

I have this card and it works well... this one is only $6 shipped!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Used-Linksys-Instant-Wireless-Network-PC-Card-WPC11-ver-3-/321095820112?pt=US_Laptop_Network_Cards&hash=item4ac2cd6350

if you look at other auctions, just look at ver3 not ver4 or others as they won't work...

for that price i should buy it, mine got bent a little and the LEDs don't work, but it still works fine :)

You must have went WEP with it.
