Turn my A1200 into C64?
« on: March 20, 2012, 07:23:08 PM »
Hey guys,

I have just one question to ask you. If I buy this simple cable http://www.vesalia.de/e_amiga1541kabel.htm and obtain a commodore 1541-II, upgrade my Amiga from 68030 to 68060 @ 50 Mhz or even 66 Mhz with 64 MB of RAM or even 128 MB of RAM and use the software magic64 and instead of having it emulate the 1541-II disk drive which would slow things down horribly, instead it uses the real disk drive to play C64 games...can I have my Amiga 1200 turn into a c64 by software emulation and play C64 games on my A1200 with FAST emulation much like AmiMSX and still be 98% compatible to Commodore 64 games? Thanks in advance.

You will be able to use Magic64 if you get a 060-card indeed. It gives you a pretty good emulation. But using a real 1541-II instead of d64-files won't give that much boost I think.

Magic64 was good, and perhaps still is on the Amiga. VICE is available for the 68k Amigas aswell, and eventhough I have never used VICE on the Amiga, but VICE is damn much better than Magic64 nowdays.

But VICE IS IMPOSSIBLE to run on a 68060, vice needs a video card and at least like 200 Mhz or more to run it smoothly. This will not work on my 68060 with AGA custom chipset, so VICE is out of my ball game.

So would Magic64 run like at 30 fps smoothly with 68060 and can you put a percentage to how much compatibility magic64 have on my A1200 and in terms of graphics etc, can you put a percentage? Thanks in advance.

if I am going to get a c64 I better get a Commodore 128D, only just because I do not have enough space for C64 with it's separate power supplies, disk drive's, etc. With a commodore 128D it is compact and space friendly..but that is in the future.

I would love a 128d. But I have a C64c so I don't need another lol.

Been reading this thread with interest. Shame I wouldn't be able to do this on my little 030.

Yes but the insane prices that Commodore 128D is being sold in eBay is HORRENDOUSLY crazy! I am not paying 3000 dollars for a Commodore 128D nor am I am going to spend 6000 to 8000 dollars USA for a Commodore 128D. I will also wait for these CRAZY prices to drop down to a more rational price like say 200 maximum for a Commodore 128D even then that is crazy price...maybe 80 dollars for a Commodore 128D seems more appropriate price.

I love my C64c. Fits in nicely with the asthetics of the 600 and 1200 I already have :)

But I would love to get emulation running properly on my 600. I know it's never gonna happen though :(

HAVE THE WORLD WENT CRAZY!!!??

Wow!  I can't believe the number of C128s and C128ds I passed up buying in Thrift stores for a few bucks in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

I never thought they'd go up to a regular 200-300 dollars a piece!
