I received an 850 MB HD for my Amiga 500.
« on: October 28, 2011, 02:36:32 AM »
I received an 850 MB HD XT (8-bit IDE, 40 PIN) for my Amiga 500 but I own a GVP A500-HD+ which only support 50 PIN (SCSI) HD. Can I use a converter or a cable from 50 Pin to 40 Pin and have the HD working on the GVP A500-HD+? I would love too upgrade my Amiga 500 from 100 MB to 850 MB it is a huge number for me? Do you think the HD will work? If so, any idea where I can get the cable or what it is called so I can search it in eBay? Concerning the ROM of the GPV A500-HD+, any idea what it is called so I can upgrade it to the maximum to support this big space? Thanks in advance.

You need an ACARD IDE to SCSI adapter, but they are not cheap! I would not bother purchasing a $150 adapter to run an old 850MB HD. That drive is not worth the power it takes to run...

I don't know that much about the GVP A500-HD+ but this is what I'd look into... Go solid state all the way :)

Two reasons why I would not go solid state:

1) The item is FOREVER deathly silent...I cannot hear the pleasure of the HD reading and writing like the good old hard drives...that in itself put me out of solid state drive for the Amiga...sorry.

2) I do not think this will work on my Amiga 500 but number 1 is the biggest reason why I have to say no.
