CF HD boots only on warm reset
« on: February 07, 2012, 10:53:55 AM »
I have a 4gb transcend CF which serves as a hd in one of my 1200's. It has classic wb 3.1 installed and has the system/wb partition as the primary bootable partition.

On cold switch on it shows the purple wb screen, but if i then do a warm reset it then boots of the cf hd.

The 1200 is a 2b mobo wih Blizzad 1220 and 8mb ram and 3.0 roms.

Could this be a problem of 3.0 rom and 3.1 classic wb?

Is there a way around this to ensure wb boots from the cf hd from cold start?

Ah ok thanks orcish75 so it seems to be a feature of this 1200 set-up. It doesn't really bother me too much but i wondered if i had one of my settings/parameters slightly off.

Maybe this is a problem of transcend cf's and sandisk would be a better option in the future? (or better still use a proper hd!)

Since you're using Kickstart 3.0, and I'm assuming you've got the card plugged into the 2.5 inch IDE controller port internally, it may be a kickstart problem.  I know that Kickstart 3.1 allows a LOT more time for hard drives to spin-up so if you want to try that solution, it might work.  I think with Kickstart 3.1 you have to install a patch in the startup-sequence for the boot sequence to work correctly.

Thanks that would make sense and may account why some people have probs and others don't.

I can't change over to 3.1 roms in this 1200 as i have a blizzard 1220 with add4 (4+4 ram) so i would lose my pcmcia port if i went to 3.1 roms, unless i downgraded my blizzard to just 4mb ram.

So I'm better off with 3.0 rom for the moment i think and just soft resetting.

At least I wasn't the only one with this problem :)
