Amino bought, and became Amiga, formed of former Gateway employees. The sale was a private sale.
Amiga Inc, the afore mentioned Amino, ran into financial difficulties after the dot com bust.
Amiga, wisely, put the development of the desktop OS in the hands of another, Hyperion. They did, however, get a late start. OS4 is being developed for different platforms one at a time ( Cyberstorm, AmigaOnE, maybe Blizzards), with the cyberstorm version coming first.
AmigaOS now has serious competition in an OS called MorphOS. A long story revolves around all of this, but basically... MorphOS is a MUI based PPC Amiga-Compatable OS on the Pegasos motherboard. Reports have it that some resellers still have the combo's available. The motherboards had to be redesigned, due to yet even more soap opera reasons.
The bottom line, the community wins because there is a choice... Or, there will be a choice... My God, this is all so confusing.. :-) Read the threads...
