hmmm.. RAID controller in the pci bus? So, is the coming update supporting PCI RAID controllers SATA cards? Sounds interesting...

The SATA card shows up on the PCI bus as a "Raid" controller...I think at one time there was a Raid driver but I'm not sure if that is working with it or not.  So it is actually a Silicon Image 3512 based PCI SATA card that is showing up with a 200GB hard disk attached.

I got all excited about AOSC when came out, I was gonna run milky tracker but it was just way too slow.

Hmm I wonder which would be quicker?

My current B-vision or dump that and use a Radeon card in the PCI slot?
Not to go too far off topic...

BVision will be OK but if you want compositing on the desktop (transparency, etc...), not to mention much greater video memory you will want a Radeon.

The BVision is based on the Permedia2. It's totally outclassed by any supported Radeon, both in terms of available memory and speed*.

However, I do still have a special soft spot for the BVision card. When I first got it, it totally transformed my everyday usage of the A1200, moreso than the PPC card it attached to. Seeing actual hardware accelerated 3D on the machine (even if it is laughable by current standards) was a buzz :)

*An exception is in the bus transfer speed from the CPU to the video RAM. For an A1200, CPU access to devices on the Mediator1200's PCI backbone is considerably slower than the CPU -> BVision. This may mean that some applications run a bit quicker on the BVision. The only obvious one that springs to mind is CPU-decoded video playback.

That is very true :) I think on BVision/CVision you pull about 15-20MB/sec video bus speed whereas on Mediator/Prometheus it's more like 5-8MB/sec.
