I'm shocked at how slow the icons and gadgets are drawn to the screen!

I'm not impressed at all.

Looks very quick for me, especially when you consider:
CS-PPC is 233MHz - that's a Pentium class.
No L2 cache - that makes a large difference
These icons are not the same icons as you had on WB 2.0! They're full colour ones.

Very good work, if you ask me.

The GUI is supposed to be fully hardware accelerated, CPU power shouldn't have any bearing whatsoever on the speed of rendering operations.
