What is the point of a 3-button Amiga mouse?  Is there any software that uses the middle button?

A three button mouse on the Amiga is really handy (especially with a scrollwheel) I use it all the time in particular with DirWork where it add's lots of extra & easy to use functions... :)

Hi,

"There is no use for a mouse at all, all it does is slow you down by having you remove your hand from the keyboard, PC programs are much better because you don't have this obnoxious interruption. -------- Bill Gates 1987"

So there you have it from the Master

Hi Smerf... :)

Have to say for once I actually agree with something Billy Boy Grates said... :)

That's why I grew a third arm... problem solved... :)
(handy though for picking yer nose & typing at the same time as well...) :)

(can be tricky buying nice warm gloves in the winter though...) :(

Cheers

On the subject of mouses...

I can understand why when they first appeared they were called mice cos the cable looked like it's tail (though some of em were big enough to be called Rats back then...) :)

But with wireless meeces these days shouldn't they be called Hamsters instead... :)

A good program/ GUI / desktop, when written well should only require the minimal amount of keyboard use and the mouse should be the main source of input... :)

A good Word Processor/ database etc... should be the opposite in that the keyboard should be the main source of input with the mouse being something that you shouldn't really have to use... :)

Simples... :)

Third mouse button can be very useful if you want to clear your RAM DISK: fast. Map it to reset the machine every time you press the button and it will clear the memory as well.
Just be careful to not press the middle button when you have unsaved work.

 That's gotta be the doggiest tip I've ever heard...

One wrong click and you could have a lot of work down the drain... :nervous:

You will learn to control yourself extremely well this way. This is also in pair with the philosophy of Guru meditation. For example coding in assembler - one wrong poke and the Guru comes to visit you.

Nah... it don't help if you've got a nervous twitch or Parkinson's disease... :)

PS: Erm.. you don't use "pokes" when coding in assembler on the Amiga so the Guru should never pop by for tea & scones... :)
