I've got an old 1084s that used to make that ruddy high pitched whine all the time, apart from giving it a good thud on the case which either changed the pitch of the whine or removed it for about half an hour, I finally got rid of it altogether by opening the thing up and blasting the Line Output Transformer with some compressed air and then a tiny spray of electrical moisture repellant. I also did the same to big rubber sucker (where the High Voltage goes into the tube) by lifting it a wee bit and blasting and spraying under there... it's never made a squeek since...
PS:Remember if your going to do this the high voltages one this component can KILL INSTANTLY SO BE CAREFUL...
