Probably because the internal ones are inside the Amigas casing which acts sorta like a loudspeaker cabinet in a way and the external ones were in far tighter enclosures with almost no room for sound reverberation... :)

(wow... don't believe I just typed that, sounds almost too sensible for me... :) )

Naw, ah only woke up about an hour ago (5pm) and my medication hasn't kicked in yet... :lol:

It's easy to prove though remove an old internal drive and place it in an external case, the difference is quite amazing... :)
