Joystick or Gamepad in the Arcade...
« on: October 29, 2010, 12:53:55 PM »
Just visited the Amiga.org games section for the first time, was total crap at it due to the fact that trying to play the Breakout/Arkanoid style game and using the mouse, I didn't last more than a few seconds, cos trying to control the bat with the mouse is hopeless... :(

Every time I tried to move the bat/paddle my mouse pointer would leave the small gameplay window and leave the bat stuck on the screen... :(

Is there any way to play these games using a joystick or gamepad, I have a usb competition pro and a usb snes gamepad connected to this iMac but neither would work.

Anyone one know if it's possible to use these in the Amiga.org arcade and if so, how !!! :)

Cheers Tone007 :)

I'll give both those ideas a wee go and see if it works, it's kinda weird though as I can use the joystick or gamepad on this iMac without having installed any drivers to play my C64 & SNES emulators... :)

AAARGGGHHH.... :madashell:

I just trounced the all time high score in the Arcade on Starship Troopers and when the game was over the ruddy LOG IN screen popped up and now me high scores gone... :furious:

How do you stop this silly automatic log out from happening, seems pretty daft to me if you get logged out by the system while playing a game, anyone in charge care to mention how to sort this... :)

Oooh ah'm really peeved... :madashell:

I'd suggest using a real emulator instead of rubbish Java/Flash-based crap.

Haven't got a Scooby Doo what your talking about !!!

If you mean the emulators I'm using on my iMac for the C64 & the SNES, then I don't know what they're are written in and it doesn't matter to me, all I know is they run that games at full screen & full speed without any problems... :)

(PS: Just beat the high score AGAIN and got ruddy well logged out before my name was registered, if this were a real arcade the machine would be receiving a severe kicking right now... C'mon A.org sort this out please... :( )

It only happens here on Amiga.org, seems to be after ten minutes or so, if I don't click on a new thread to read or even in the middle of typing a long post, I get logged out.

I thought it was something to do with the way A.org is set up, as I say it doesn't happen on any other site...

Steve Jobs is eating your cookies.  He needs them, though, the scrawny salesman.

I've just had a quick look through my cookies (gawd there's tons of them) Mr Jobbies can't be eating enough of them though as I've got plenty left and he's still a skinny scrawny creep... :roflmao:

Hey Franko, I have yet to visit the games section here, but one invaluable piece of hardware I'd recommend for your Mac is an Atari 2600 joystick to USB adapter. You might still be able to purchase them off atariage.com and it's good for online stuff as well as M.A.M.E. and other emulators. Worth every penny of its $40 asking price...

Hi save2600, :)

I recently purchased the Competition Pro USB version for £12 and it works a treat on the Mac and a SNES USB gamepad for £7 from china which also works fine on the MAC, best of all there was no need for adapters or drivers... :)

Exactly. What I mean is: for performance, use an emulator that is actually written for your operating system. Not interpreted crap running inside a browser.

>But there's no competition with other Amiga.org members offline!

This has nothing to do with what language it is written in. Eg. my emulators support this. Maybe you should ask for improvements to UAE.

You've got me totally lost matey...

The SNES & C64 emulators are written for the mac...
Who's talking about UAE, I don't even use it ...

Im talking here about the Arcade section in Amiga.org which I've just discovered and would like to play without being logged out...

Methinks you've got your wires crossed somewhere... :)

SHAZBUTT... Ive just broke me mouse...

I threw it across the room when I just beat the ruddy high score again in Startship Legend in the arcade and found myself logged out again and losing the high score...

Do any of the moderators or administrators know why this keeps happening... :madashell:

Exactly. To reiterate: I suggest using UAE (or Fellow) instead, I'm pretty sure there's a Mac port...

I must be a real diddy here, I still don't get what you mean... :(

This UAE or Fellow you mention, what does that have to do with the Arcade section here on Amiga.org ?

And what have they got to do with this old iMac I use for the net, please clear it up for me as it's doing my wee brain in... ta... :)

It sounds more like Minuous doesn't get that you're trying to play games in the Amiga.org arcade, and his suggestions of finding emulators will not help to that end.

I was wondering that myself, but his answers are just totally baffling me... :)

@ Minuous

Could you please clear up what you are trying to say, be back shortly, I'm of to the ARCADE to try and get a new high score... Cheers :)
